Books artists Didier Mutel and Meredith Stern each interpret United Nations Resolution 217A in two very different but compelling ways. Mutel’s R217A reproduces the text of the United Nations Resolution 217A in white ink on white paper as a metaphor that human rights often can be nearly invisible. Meredith Stern’s artistic interpretation of the Universal Declaration of Rights is a limited edition portfolio of linoleum block prints highlighting the preamble and the 30 articles of the UDHR. Her work serves as a reminder that R217A alone does not protect people from abuses of power, and that it is our responsibility as humans to make our institutions accountable to ensure that human rights are upheld at all levels.
