“Death in Disguise,” curated by Student Assistant Kusum Subedi ’26, draws from the collection of artists books in Special Collections & Archives to focus on metaphorical and mythological interpretations of death in the form of storytelling and illustration. The exhibit presents a collection of books that highlight the cultural, literary, psychological, and social significance of death in artistic and poetic form. The selected books and artwork narrate stories that connect life, love, and loss, from Greek mythology, ancient Mayan culture, psychological horror, death during epidemics. The exhibition portrays the diversity of emotions and weight that death carries in a multitude of contexts, and its image as a spiritual cornerstone that connects humans and nature together.
