Recent Addition to the Howard Chandler Christy Papers

A 1918 calendar featuring artwork from the famous recruitment poster If You Want to Fight, Join the Marines has been purchased for the Christy Papers. Christy, a prolific early 20th century American illustrator, created approximately forty paintings to be reproduced as posters for enlistment, bond sales, victory loans, and service organizations during WWI. The Go Over with the U.S. Marines calendar enabled Americans to display Christy’s popular 1915 poster on a smaller scale in their homes. The artist’s preliminary sketches as well as the full-scale poster are also housed with the Christy Papers at Lafayette College.
