The Sword is Mightier than the Penn

Special Collections does not normally buy football programs, but we couldn’t resist this wonderful pairing of the Marquis de Lafayette and William Penn on the program cover for the November 10, 1923 game against the University of Pennsylvania. The program is a Penn publication with artwork by Robert Foster. We particularly liked Lafayette’s fancy footwork, which apparently paid off–the final score was 8 to 6 in favor of Lafayette.
