Hand received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Lafayette College in 1857. He served on the Board of Trustees for Lafayette College from 1859 to 1880. The books record Hand’s weekly church activities from 1877 to 1879. They contain listings of texts and sermons read, appointments, chores, and special services performed including marriages and funerals. Hand refers several times to Lafayette College in the memoranda section.
