Adam Heckman was the son of John Adam Heckman, a native of Moore Township in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Heckman had been a soldier in the Revolutionary War and married Elizabeth Kreider, daughter of Conrad Kreider of Kreidersville, Pa. He died in 1818 and is buried in Saint John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Easton, Pa. The notebook is arranged alphabetically by surname and includes notes on profession, property, and values as recorded for tax assessment in Easton, Pa. Individuals listed in the notebook include Christian Bixler, Christian Butz, Samuel Sitgreaves, Daniel Wagner and William White. Also inscribed on the cover is the name B. M. Youells, assessor from 1876 to 1906. Included is a letter of appointment of B. M. (Benjamin Mettler) Youells as Assessor for the Second Ward, Easton Borough on the 21st day of July, 1881.
